"We want an off-grid single-level family home atop a farm hill, with views from the living and master bedroom spaces to the Cook Straight and Marlborough sounds" - This was the short version of the brief when we met our client on a farm hill in Seddon. This ‘L’ shape home wraps around a central pool with bedrooms, bathrooms and laundry spaces separated from the main living space & master bedroom suite where the owners will primarily spend their lives. Four spacious rooms were created for the overflow of family coming to stay, separated with a split level. The dwelling is orientated on-site to maximise the stunning views and sunlight, with plenty of kodak moments with sunrise and sunsets visible from the living areas and bedrooms. The home has been designed with solar and water collection, and a modern wood fireplace provides ducted heating to the bedrooms and master suite, as well as providing heating to the main living space. With large external walls and mechanical ventilation - throughout the spaces, this home is designed for low energy use.
